2008 NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

Florida Watercolor 2008 is better and bigger than ever and we hope you will join us. Our Watercolor Society is the largest state society and one of the largest in the nation with approximately 1200 members. Why is this an opportunity for you? Consider that we are able to bring to you the best nationally known jurors and instructors for our annual convention and workshops. Our annual conventions provide a forum and learning experience for our members and an opportunity to meet and talk to our juror, demonstrators, workshop instructors and members of the FWS. Our trade show offers the opportunity to see and buy at discounted prices the latest art materials from our vendors. We also work with a network of “Societies”, other watercolor organizations around the state of Florida to ensure that we know them and they know us. Our organization publishes an annual exhibition catalog of all the selected paintings and awards in addition to a directory of all our members. You can improve your art, expand your circle of artist friends and have fun being a member of FWS!

2008 CONVENTION

If you join before April 30, 2008 you will be eligible to enter our 37th Annual Exhibition. Our opening Exhibition and Reception will be at The Cornell Museum on September 19th. Our Annual FWS Convention weekend (September 19-21) will be held at the Marriott Delray Beach, the village by the sea. Downtown Delray Beach, now fully restored, offers a rare glimpse of a true Main Street. With its brick sidewalks scenic vistas, it offers a mix of restaurants, antique shops, art galleries and clothiers.

Two four-day workshops will begin Monday September 14th. The juror, Mary Ann Beckwith, NWS who revels in sharing tried and true methods of painting as well as her explorations into the uncharted territories of experimental watercolor.. Ted Nuttall, NWS will be portraiture and figure painting. Other convention activities include lectures, critiques, demonstrations, banquet and award presentations, and tradeshow.

 

HISTORY

Mr. Guy Beattie, Director of the Maitland Art Center in 1972, invited Florida watercolorists to exhibit. Miles Batt, AWS, selected 84 paintings for this first exhibition. Painters and viewers were so impressed that the Florida Watercolor Society was founded in October 1973 with 26 members. Since its inception, the society has grown to over 1200 members.

HOW TO JOIN

You may join online! or send your check and the completed application to our Membership chairman. If you join at Convention you receive membership for the next three months and are paid up through the next year. A Florida resident must pay the annual dues by April 30 to be eligible for the Fall exhibition. A person who does not fulfill the residency requirement may become a "Non-resident Associate Member" with all the membership privileges except that he/she may not enter an FWS juried exhibition or become an officer in FWS. Annual renewal notices will be mailed to you after the new year. Failure to renew by May 1, of each year will result in losing your status and all privileges. You may regain your status by paying back dues.
