My demo will include several of the major steps that I usually take for creating a painting. I will explain how I select my photo references and what details are important when I create the drawing. I explain how and why I use masking fluid and briefly explain my approach to color mixing for clean, transparent results. I bring a painting in 3 stages and apply paint on the last 2 stages to demonstrate my unconventional “brushless” approach.

In my demonstration I will be painting a landscape from a photo reference using thumbnail value studies to create a strong composition.  I will then share my approach to choosing a palette and a strategy of paint application.  Finally, I'll demonstrate a way to address shapes and edges that will help produce the loose, painterly effect that is so appealing.  It's a lot to cover, but I'm excited to show you that working slowly and smoothly is the way to paint fast.
